Meet the Staff

Nathan Sparks, Publisher

Nathan is a native of Bristol, Tennessee and has lived in Knoxville for the past 25 years. He enjoys writing, photography, alpine skiing, flying airplanes, boating, rock climbing, fishing, golf and cooking. The father of two boys, Ethan 14 and Troupe 4 you can often find the three of them hanging out at the lake or on the slopes.

Sarah Clark, Assistant Editor

Likes… Russian literature, Brazilian coffee, anteaters, playing board games with her husband, her cat Eliot, Josh Ritter, Latin, and Damages.

Sarah was born in Asheville, NC, but grew up in Bolivia and Brazil. She has a B.A. in English and Russian from Dartmouth College, where she was the Managing Editor of the award-winning Dartmouth Apologia. She has edited five scholarly publications to date. She moved to Knoxville with her Tennessean husband in the summer of 2011 and has enjoyed getting to know the people and places of East Tennessee.

 

 

Bryan Starmer, Creative Director

Likes… home improvement, playing the guitar, staying fit, long-distance running, and plopping down on the couch with his wife to watch a baseball game at the end of a long day.

Bryan is a native Knoxvillian, holds a B.S. in communications and advertising from the University of Tennessee, and is the recipient of several Knoxville Ad Federation “Addy” awards. He has more than 15 years of creative experience that includes work in graphic design, advertising and project management. He has worked with a wide variety of healthcare, business and non-profit clients—-developing integrated advertising and communications strategies, creative design, product introductions and brand management campaigns.

 

 

Matthew Reynolds, Digital Media Specialist

Likes… rainy days, Pride & Prejudice, music (Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, John Mayer, Sara Bareilles, Coldplay) drinking coffee, spending time with good friends, the mountains.

Matthew is an independent filmmaker. His favorite quote: “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” —C.S. Lewis. He has an A.A.S. in Media Technologies with a concentration in Video Production Technology from Pellissippi State Community College.

 

 

MaryAnne Walker, Office Manager

Likes… Scrabble, live music and festivals, IPAs, gardening, monkeys, family vacations, Niagara Falls, the Buffalo Bills, reading.

MaryAnne is a native of Niagara Falls, NY. She attended The University of Dayton in Dayton, OH where she received her B.S. in Accounting. 

 

 

Liz Chambers, Account Executive

Likes… a good book, good friends, gardening, golfing, traveling.  Loves… Family time with her husband, children and grandsons, Ethan & Eli.

Liz is from AR, but has resided in East TN for 27 years.  She has a nursing degree with a background in health marketing and sales.
