Boozy Brunch

A portmanteau (French for suitcase) word that folds together breakfast and lunch, brunch has become a way to celebrate a spirited Saturday or Sunday. (Or both!) Featuring the best of breakfast and lunch fare, alongside a cocktail—often a bloody mary or mimosa—brunch can lift the spirits and fortify the soul. Usually eaten between 10 and 2 (though showing up earlier will get both quick seating and faster service), it can make a late Friday or Saturday night less of a strain on the following day. Here are our top recommendations.

For the past 40 years, Gourmets Market has been a breakfast and brunch destination.  Chef Holly Hambright’s menu offers creative spins on classic dishes in an inviting, bistro-market atmosphere. The expansive all-day breakfast menu features items like the Big Burrito, Goat Cheese and Eggs, and Chipotle Chicken & Grits.  These favorites can be enjoyed with a brilliant Bloody Mary or a refreshingly unique Cucumber Prosecco cocktail.

Scrambled Jake’s

At Scrambled Jake’s Breakfast Company, it is clear that they believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The restaurant features a neighborhood-driven breakfast and brunch dining experience. The menu includes a variety of options including the Rocky Hill Hammer (the name hails from the Northshore location), thick fluffy pancakes, and French toast topped with fresh berries or granola, Benny’s and other egg options, as well as fresh-squeezed juice and French pressed coffee. On Saturdays and Sundays, guests can treat themselves to a Blood Mary bar featuring local hot sauces for extra zip.  In addition, Scrambled Jake’s has fun events like the weekly Fiesta Wednesday, during which they offer huevos rancheros, the Sonora omelet, and breakfast tacos.

The Crown & Goose provides a charming atmosphere for a leisurely Sunday brunch. Guests can enjoy their meals of Eggs Chesapeake, omelets, appetizer boards and more on the expansive patio or in the cozy indoor booths. To top off a rich breakfast, drink options include the Millionaire’s Coffee—Irish cream, Frangelico, Kahlua, and coffee topped with whipped cream—or a $3 glass of champagne, blood mary, mimosa, or poinsettia.

Cazzy’s Corner Grill

Offering a traditional menu, Cazzy’s has your favorite brunch staples such as chicken and waffles, southern eggs benedict and a delicious crab cake benedict.  These items are served with a side—we recommend the yogurt parfait, which is topped with crunchy granola. During brunch hours, guests can select a $5 cocktail, either a mimosa or screwdriver made with fresh-squeezed juice, or a spicy bloody mary.
