Some of our best spots for seeing a colorful show.

Whether you’re fond of shooting photographs, an aficionado of watching colors explode across the East Tennessee landscape, or taking your coffee or ending a Spring picnic as the sun rises in the East or sets in the West, finding the right spot to watch the show is as important as having the desire. With our hills and trees, here in Knoxville we have to either get near the water or above the trees to experience the full beauty of the sun on the horizon. Here are six spots sure to produce an extravaganza.

Sunrise

Clark Center Park

Grab a biscuit or bagel on the way, take a seat at one of the picnic tables, and watch the show explode over McCoy Branch off Melton Hill Lake.

The Cove at Concord Park

Out on the point looking back toward the marina and watching the sun rise over the masts is a great place to take your morning coffee.

Sharp’s Ridge Memorial Park

The morning is wide open here, with views of the North Knoxville, downtown, and the sun coming up over the mountains. Bring a thermos and a friend.

Sunset

Carl Cowan Park

35.850057, -84.096498

The sunset here can be stunning, reflected in the wide angle of the lake you’ll get from one of the best park benches in Knox County.

Riverside Landing

Tucked under the James White Parkway is a nifty little space that allows you to look back across the city as the sun sets. Get out on the rowing dock for the best view

Louisville Point Park

35.828223, -84.047485

A picnic under the pines is a perfect way to watch the colors as the calendar turns to Spring and the sunset moves out into the main channel of Fort Loudon Lake.
