Duncan and Sons’ Building Maintenance

A Clean Sweep

To sustain and grow a business for three straight decades is no easy task. It takes hard work and an unwavering dedication to both clients and employees alike. In the case of Duncan and Sons’ Building Maintenance Inc., the family-run venture has been doing both since its inception, with humility in their service to the Knoxville area.

Started as a one-man mowing service in 1989, the company has blossomed into a booming enterprise employing over 300 team members. “I really had no intention of starting a cleaning business,” says Gary Duncan, founder and President of Duncan and Sons’ Building Maintenance, Inc. “I was between jobs and we had four children at the time. I was just trying to feed my family.”

Fortuitously, Gary picked up a building to clean at the end of that mowing season, and the rest is history. “That was 30 years ago,” says Gary, “and we still clean for that business today.”

During their growth, Duncan and Sons’ has expanded its services to include commercial janitorial, building maintenance, water damage restoration, hard-surface floor care, and commercial carpet cleaning. All their employees are trained and vetted, and they are a Tennessee-certified drug-free workplace. According to Vice President Luke Duncan, “We understand that our success depends on our client’s overall satisfaction and we’re happy to earn it one clean at a time!”

Currently, Duncan and Sons’ serves a wide array of facilities to include churches, industrial, medical, educational, and professional offices. Professionalism is of the upmost importance, and Gary insists that his key to success is having long-term relationships with customers and staff and living up to the motto, “We don’t cut corners. We clean them.”

With that mindset, it’s no surprise that 2019 marks the second consecutive year that Duncan and Sons’ has been recognized as the “Best of the Best” in the office cleaning service category. As Gary says, “We are grateful and blessed to serve such wonderful customers.” Luke echoes those sentiments by saying, “We truly enjoy working with each one of our amazing customers and we’re excited to continue serving them.”

The Duncans realize great employees are the foundation for every successful company and would like to give heartfelt congratulations to the people who report to work every day prepared to deliver their signature standard of clean. “We know our team has worked hard for this accomplishment, and we appreciate your dedication.”

All in all, Duncan and Sons’ is more than a business with a bottom line. As Gary puts it, “We are committed to our customers, our employees, and our immediate community. We hope to invest in a manner that makes a significant difference in the lives of others. We are very grateful to have this mission and very thankful for the singleness of purpose we experience within our company. We don’t just work together; we are close friends involved in each other’s lives. We are blessed to do what we do.”
