Government Commission Dictates Malpractice Results
A deceptively named not-for-profit threatens patient compensation by lobbying for new medical malpractice laws.
Wh e n i t c o m e s t o lobbyists, a name does
not mean much—and can be misleading. Take, for example, the Section 501(c) (4) organization “Patients for Fair Compensation.” You might expect that a not-for-profit with such a name would represent patient interests. Your expec- tation would be wrong.
Richard L. Jackson chairs the group. He is also Chairman and CEO of Jackson Healthcare, which “provides hospitals with physicians, clinicians, and allied health professionals.” Jackson has devel- oped more than 25 health-care compa- nies and owns and operates (according to his personal biography) staffing compa- nies, surgery centers, practice manage- ment companies, clinics, and hospitals.
Likewise, the Executive Director of “Patients for Fair Compensation,” Wayne Oliver, admits to being for
19 years the lead lobbyist and chief spokesman for the Georgia Phar- macy Association.
“Big Medical Shills for Reducing Patient Compensation” would better describe the advocacy group the two men oversee.
