Dear friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of a beloved member of our community, Margit Worsham. Margit was a warrior—a light in East Tennessee, a philanthropist, a fierce advocate for conservation, and someone who taught those around her to care deeply about the world. Her ability to inspire and motivate others was one of her most defining traits, and today, we remember her impact—just as we know so many of you do, too.

I first met Margit and her husband, Earl, decades ago at their home in Norton Creek. If you know them, you know their love of fishing and their dedication to preserving the sport in our region. This year, I had the privilege of sharing Margit and Earl’s story in the pages of our magazine’s January issue. Even though I had long admired their work, it felt like the right time to put it in print.

That day at their home, we strolled along Norton Creek where we fished together, and she and Earl shared stories of their conservation efforts. Her positive energy was infectious. Despite her fierce battle with cancer, Earl said it was Margit’s positive attitude that kept her going.

I can recall her face lighting up when she talked about her and Earl’s chance meeting years ago, her daughters and family who shared in her passions, and the community she loved so much. The piece we published feels all the more meaningful now. When the issue came out, Margit quietly shared it on social media—and the hundreds of comments that poured in said what we all felt: that her recognition was so deeply deserved.

It wasn’t the only time I had the chance to share Margit’s passions with our readers. Her work with Arrowmont School was another way she left her legacy. But there are so many other organizations and institutions she touched in her life’s work. And as I reflect on Margit’s legacy, I carry with me something she told me that day on Norton Creek: “Live life to the fullest, and be happy.Margit certainly did that. And it will be an ongoing inspiration to all that knew her.

On behalf of all of us at Cityview, we extend our deepest condolences to our dear friend Earl and the Worsham family. If you have a story about Margit, we hope you’ll share it. We look forward to gathering your memories to share with the East Tennessee community Margit touched so deeply.

Services will be held at Dollywood’s HeartSong Lodge at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The family has informed me that all are welcome.

Sincerely,

Nathan Sparks
