Finding the Right Firm in Scott & Cain

When you or a loved one is seriously injured due to someone else’s negligent or reckless behavior, you need a law firm you can count on to get you back on your feet. The question becomes: How do I know which law firm to choose?

A good place to start is with credentials such as professional awards, distinctions, association affiliations, things like that.

What will you find when you research the firm of Scott & Cain? You’ll find that between Thomas S. Scott, Jr. and partner Chris Cain, the firm has an outstanding reputation, having garnered recognitions such as President of the Knoxville Bar Association and Chair of the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility.

In furthering your research, you would be most interested in case results. With Scott & Cain you’ll find that, with over 70 collective years of experience, the partners have secured millions of dollars for clients across East Tennessee in cases related to auto accident injuries, medical malpractice, and defective products, to name just a few. You would also learn that although there are many personal injury firms in Knoxville, Scott & Cain is one of the few that tries medical malpractice cases in court. “When fellow attorneys need help with a case, or they need to refer one of their clients to an attorney they can trust, they contact us,” says Cain. “They know that we care deeply about our clients and always diligently represent their interests.”

After preliminary research, you’ll want to speak with one of the partners to get a feel for how they think and what motivates them. Which in this case would lead you to a conversation with Chris Cain.

Have that conversation with Chris and you’ll learn that he cares deeply about what he does. Of his relationship with his partner, Chris recounts that he met Tom in his first job out of law school while both were working for the same large Knoxville firm. “I’ve worked with Tom for pretty much my entire career and I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor. He is so well respected, has a great perspective on life, works extremely hard and has given me the freedom to prioritize the things in my life that I wanted. That freedom has allowed me to raise my four children, the freedom to do my work and at the same time to be the person and parent that I want to be.”

Chris recalls a case that he says “the firm probably shouldn’t have won, but we won it.” It was a stale case that had been around for about eight or nine years. “It was a hard case,” he says, “a malpractice case involving a woman’s death and when we took the case it was already too late for her husband; he had passed away from cancer. It was justice that they had deserved for a long time and for that reason it was immensely gratifying.”

Chris and Tom have a great number of gratifying moments, many of which are documented by the myriad number of mementos in their office, expressions of gratitude from thankful clients. “These mementos remind us of how we need to treat our clients and how we need to treat their cases. They inspire us to keep doing what we’re doing.”

And now your decision is made. You’ve found the right law firm for your case. That wasn’t so hard, was it?
