It’s summer, the world is re-opening, and you’re ready to hit the road! Here are three easy day trips from Knoxville for a range of travelers and tastes:

1:  Chattanooga: Our sister city just 90 minutes to the south offers lots of possibilities for entertaining the whole family: The Tennessee Aquarium for the kids (and parents too!); an array for downtown dining and shopping options, hiking and biking opportunities in the heart of the city; Rock City and Ruby Falls; the Chattanooga Choo-Choo for historic downtown lodging, and much more. Read more about it at www.visitchattanooga.com.

2.  Historic Jonesborogh: For a taste of Tennessee history, head northeast to Jonesborough, the oldest town in Tennessee. This 18th century town celebrates its heritage through education, events, and preserved architecture. Sign up for a Historic Jonesborough Town Tour, browse the boutiques and shops along Main Street, drop in for a bite to eat at one of the downtown cafes and soak in the atmosphere of this charming small town. And you won’t want to miss the International Storytelling Festival Oct. 1-3. More info here: www.jonesboroughtn.org.

3. Kentucky Splash: If you’re looking for a fun kid-friendly day far away from the crowds in Sevier County, head north on Interstate 75 to the first exit in Kentucky and Kentucky Splash Waterpark and Campground. In addition to exciting slides, wave pool, lazy river and kiddy area, the park offers miniature golf, concessions and a campground. Admission to the waterpark is an affordable $10 per person every day. More info here.
