Knoxville’s irst Startup Day celebrated the
richness and diversity of Knoxville’s entrepre-

neurial history—and aimed to help aspiring
entrepreneurs follow in the footsteps of regal

cinemas, the Pilot corporation, and the wealth
of other Knoxville-based businesses that

have taken the economy by storm. the event
ran from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Standard and

included a welcome from Knoxville mayor
madeline rogero, “power pitches” from the

ceos of 16 local startups, a keynote address
from bandit Lites founder michael Strickland,

live music, and a networking event.—S.H.c.
