2020 Top Docs

Many of us would agree that our health is our most valuable asset. As such, we go to great lengths to make sure we safeguard it. We take vitamins and supplements, attempt to eat healthier, exercise, try to get the right amount of sleep, and a myriad of other health-conscious things to improve our overall well being – that includes choosing the right doctor.

But how do we know who the right doctor is in a particular discipline? More to the point, how do we know who the ‘best’ doctor is in a given field of practice? Frankly, that’s a question we’ve been asking for almost two decades. Since 2002, Cityview has been publishing an annual list of Knoxville’s ‘Top Docs’ based on results provided through an online balloting process. The physicians who have been included on the list have been chosen solely by their peers. In other words, doctors are choosing doctors as to who they believe is a top provider in a specific field.

In 2002, Cityview published results for 21 different medical categories, which highlighted a total of 66 physicians. The list covered half a page and designated the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place heritors. The next year, 2003, those numbers grew exponentially in both categories and physicians listed. That trend has continued over the years to the point that we now list hundreds of physicians in approximately 75 categories…until this year.

This year, we have chosen a different path. This year, category-by-category, we are only publishing the name of the physician who received the most total votes from among their peers. This person will have truly earned the accolade of Top Doctor in a given discipline. 2nd place and all subsequent accolade recipients, along with the 1st place honoree, will be listed online at Cityview’s website. Additional names may appear in the event of a tie for a specific position.

So, as we continue to evaluate ways to improve or protect our health, inclusive of preventive and post affliction care, we can also look to the medical community to deliver guidance as to the appropriate provider in a given practice area.

The healers have spoken through their votes and this time, we are pleased to present their very top choices for Top Docs 2020.
