Whether you’re talking to their doctors, their staff, or their patients, you’ll hear the same thing: there are many medispas in East Tennessee, but there is only one Skin Wellness Center.

For over two decades, Dr. Meredith Overholt and Dr. Kimberly Grande have prided themselves on providing the best in medical and cosmetic dermatologic care, while their dedicated team of aestheticians and advanced practitioners offer a variety of services to improve the health and look of skin.

“We look at things like psoriasis, eczema, acne, autoimmune rashes, things like that,” says Dr. Overholt. “That’s the bread and butter of our practice.”

So what goes into a top-tier dermatology practice? The first element is expertise.

“We have a completely different platform than other medispas because we have dermatologists on site at our practice who oversee our work and decisions on site daily,” says staff aesthetician Alexis Pacetti. And it’s not just Dr. Overholt and Dr. Grande bringing that level of medical care to the practice, either.

“One thing that makes us different from most is that most of our aesthetic staff come from medical backgrounds,” says Dr. Grande. “It really gives them appreciation for anatomy, what the skin is made of physiologically, and what you can expect skin to do,”

Aestheticians spend months shadowing the dermatologists before they’re allowed to perform treatments of their own. This means that the care they provide, even when purely aesthetic, is part of a larger plan to improve the health of the patient’s skin.

That plan is the second element: a holistic medical approach to skincare.

“We carry the caring mantra of medicine into our practice,” says Dr. Grande. “We want to give patients good medical outcomes, not just make them look pretty.”

Every patient gets a personalized treatment plan after consultation with the Skin Wellness team, to make sure their treatment is focused on their individual needs and concerns.

“We always like to give people options,” says Dr. Overholt. “We’re all about giving you the pros and cons of each of your choices.”

Treatment doesn’t just stay in the office, either. Education is a big part of continuing treatment, and both Dr. Overholt and Dr. Grande emphasize teaching their patients the best ways to maintain the results Skin Wellness helps them achieve.

“There’s a lot of people who learn about their skincare on TikTok, but the influencer doesn’t have the years of medical school and 24 years of practice we do,” says Dr. Grande.

One simple technique for self-diagnosis Dr. Overholt teaches her patients is what she calls the ‘Ugly Duckling’ rule.

“Skin cancer doesn’t often come in identical sets of six or seven,” says Dr. Overholt. “Basically, if you look at a spot and you look around and you’re like, ‘No, I really don’t have any others like that,’ that’s an ugly duckling.”

The third and final element is innovation. One such innovative service Skin Wellness offers is a non-surgical treatment for skin cancer known as GentleCure.

“It’s superficial radiation therapy guided by an ultrasound,” explains Dr. Grande. “You can get your skin cancer treated without a scalpel, and it’s 99.9% effective.”

“We’ve been doing it the longest of anyone in the city,” says Dr. Overholt – for over seven years, Dr. Grande adds.

Staying on top of the latest innovations in dermatologic medicine takes time and effort, but for Dr. Overholt and Dr. Grande, it’s the right thing to do for their patients.

“At Skin Wellness, we believe healthy skin is beautiful skin, and every person has the right to have the skin they desire,” says Dr. Grande.
