“The individuals who come to us in need of guidance in the areas of family law, adoption, divorce, and juvenile defense among others, are dealing with some of the most difficult decisions of their lifetimes… decisions fraught with remorse, anger, and frustration,” he says. These types of cases are highly emotional for the parties, and they require more than legal counsel. Barnett strives to identify the best interests of his clients in order to help them persevere through the high-tension situations that can occur during a stressful time in their life.
“The job,” Barnett says, “really takes a commitment to making our client’s emotional health a priority, which has been one of the guiding principles of the firm since its start in 2008.” Barnett prides himself on approaching every case with that mindset.
When it comes to divorce cases, Barnett is not afraid of the numbers. Working with high asset divorces, an area where other lawyers may struggle, is where Barnett finds his zone. “Lawyers become overwhelmed with the process of dividing assets, but you need to identify with both parties’ needs and provide an environment so that they can work toward an agreement,” he says. This strategy is one that Barnett utilizes when conducting mediations at his office for other Knoxville area attorneys, and also when attending mediation for his clients.
Perhaps one of the reasons this firm excels in connecting with and understanding clients is because Barnett is part of this community as well. A native Tennessean and longtime resident of Knox County, he understands the legal challenges that are unique to East Tennessee, and uses that experience to his advantage to set his clients on the path for success from the first day he takes on a case.
A seasoned litigator, Barnett has represented people across East TN and in places as far as Hawaii and Germany. This extensive experience helps Barnett navigate judicial procedures efficiently and effectively implement strategies tailored to clients and their unique situations. “We are skilled at negotiating cases, as well as anticipating and countering opposing counsel’s arguments. We use this experience to craft strategies that address client circumstances. Clients benefit from the insight gained during past cases.”

We ensure that happens.” Barnett takes immense pride in the firm’s commitment to its clients. “The reason I enjoy doing what I do is because I fix things,” Barnett says. “People bring me in to fix what everyone says is unfixable, but I’ve yet to find a situation that’s unfixable.”
