Gold Standard in Skincare

Knoxville Institute of Dermatology celebrates over a decade of service and innovation in dermatology and dermatopathology

When you think of dermatology, what do you think of? Do you think of acne treatments? Cosmetics? What about skin cancer? Do you think of dermatological surgery? Dermatology contains all of these specialties and more, and you’ll find experts in them all at the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology.

A physician-owned practice, the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology is dedicated to the skincare needs of Knoxville, whether you’re looking to refine your appearance or handle a serious diagnosis. And with locations in not only Knoxville, but Lenoir City, Morristown, and Tellico Village, reaching an expert that’s close to home is easier than ever.

Experts in House

Dr. Quyn Rahman—who brought home gold in the Dermatologist category in Cityview‘s Best of the Best—is one of the partners of Knoxville Institute of Dermatology. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and it was during her time there that she discovered her passion for dermatology and dermatopathology, a sub-specialty of dermatology focused on laboratory analysis related to skin diseases.

“It’s not a common combination,” says Dr. Rahman of her dual specializations. That’s why, when she came to Tennessee in 2013, she was excited to meet Dr. Elizabeth Anderson, who shared her background and at the time was running a one-woman dermatology practice. “I reached out to her asking if she would want to have a partner,” says Dr. Rahman. “She said, ‘Actually, I’ve been looking for many years to get somebody to come and join me.’”

Together, the two doctors would take the practice on a journey to new heights, creating the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology that we know today.

“Dr. Rahman is an incredible doctor,” says Dr. Anderson. “She is always pursuing the newest therapies and state of the art medicine. More than that, she always treats patients the way you would want a family member treated, and that’s one of the reasons I’ve always enjoyed working with her.”

Dr. Rahman and Dr. Anderson have now called the Institute home for more than a decade, and their passion for their work has only grown.

“Dermatology is a really diverse field,” says Dr. Rahman. “You get to see patients of all different ages. You see children and elderly patients. You get to follow family members through generations. We really see everything and everyone.”

A Special Place

Dr. Rahman isn’t just proud of her own work, however; she’s proud of what the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology has become and can offer to the community.

“Our main focus is comprehensive medical dermatology,” says Dr. Rahman. “Most dermatology practices don’t have dual board-certified dermatologists and dermatopathologists on staff. We are able to diagnose not only by examination but through in-house technology and laboratory work, and then we’re able to treat conditions like skin cancer in-house with our own surgeon.”

In-house surgery is a rarity among dermatology clinics, but thanks to the Institute’s third partner, Dr. Adam Wright, patients are able to access a fuller range of options to treat their conditions.

“I specialize in Mohs surgery, which is a more detailed removal of skin cancer, resulting in higher cure rates and less scarring,” says Dr. Wright. “I am proud that we are a more medically-focused dermatology practice that has prioritized high level and rigorous training in order to provide the highest level of care to East Tennesseans.”

The Knoxville Institute of Dermatology offers numerous services, both medical and cosmetic, and has several practitioners in addition to the three partners specialized in each area of their practice. All members of this team treat their patients with the dignity and respect they deserve. And the partners are proud of that accomplishment.

“Patients really want someone that will listen to what’s going on with them and evaluate them holistically,” says Dr. Anderson. “Even as we’ve grown, we’ve remained committed to helping people, regardless of what skin problems they have.”

Healthy is Beautiful

No matter your age, it’s important that you are prepared to take the best care of your skin that you can—and to tackle any issues that arise. That’s the message the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology wants to leave its patients.

“What our practice is able to offer is personalized expertise,” says Dr. Anderson. “We take the time to really evaluate a patient’s condition and offer them the therapies that are best suited for them.”

And they’ll never turn anyone away. All are welcome at the Knoxville Institute of Dermatology, and all will benefit from the expertise within its walls.

“We want to take care of everybody’s skin,” says Dr. Rahman. “Our main focus is keeping you healthy, keeping you cancer-free, and being there for you and your skin.”
