Fox will talk to you free of charge about your health — whether it’s brain fog, trouble sleeping, low energy or tissue recovery after a hard workout. She is a strong believer in natural medicine and the body’s ability to heal itself.
“We make all our own tinctures, and anything that I can’t make, I have a lab in Florida make it for me,” she says. “We focus on functional wellness for people who want to try alternatives to pharmaceutical medications.”
Fox specializes in Hashimoto’s and thyroid issues, autoimmune conditions, and overall wellness.
“We have protocols for pretty much everything for people who want to have a very specialized supplement or herbal regimen made for them. We’re here to give people options. If they think, ‘I’ve got no more choices,’ this is something for them to explore.”
Conventional wisdom says that necessity is the mother of invention, and in Fox’s case, that was certainly true. She has multiple sclerosis, and things shifted in 2010, at age 35, when she went under the care of a gerontologist. She was a college history teacher living in California and found that just trying to explain her physical symptoms to her doctor was difficult. So she did the academic thing: she went back to school to earn a degree in anatomy and physiology and adaptive fitness.
She didn’t stay in a wheelchair. She became an exercise physiologist and started her own rehabilitation center. She did continuing education in autoimmune diseases and herbalism, treating herself along the way.
Fox moved to Knoxville in 2020 and opened Fox Muscle & Joint alongside her husband, Bobby, with Saucy Foxy following at the same location.
“I’ve been doing herbs with my grandma since I was 5, but becoming a formal herbalist, and everything else that I was doing, was basically to save my own life. And so everything that I make in the store was made for either me or someone in my family or my kids.”
Fox says a shining example of a product that has helped her is Cougar Rouge, a supplement for perimenopause and menopause support.
“I had a total hysterectomy at 35,” she says. “By 37, I was in full-blown menopause, and I did not do well on hormone replacement therapy. HRT actually made me a crazy person. It was just this need to find an alternative, and I was like, ‘We have so many cultures and so many things available in this world. Women have been managing menopause since the beginning of time, so there must be an alternative.’ And so I created Cougar Rouge for myself, and it’s one of our top sellers.”
Fox says the supplement is popular with women who don’t respond as well to HRT or don’t want to go that route due to reading research about health risks.
“We work with a lot of functional medicine and hormone practitioners who recommend this product for women who don’t want to be on HRT but need a little bit of extra support for hot flashes, loss of interest, joint pain, bloating, menopause belly, all of that. So that’s been really helping. To see women come in and get that relief so quickly, and then gift it to all their friends has just created a really nice community.”

“It takes anywhere from 15 minutes if you don’t have anything too much going on, to maybe 90 minutes if you have a lot of stuff going on and you’re on a lot of different medications.”
