Advertising File Specifications

Print-Ready Ads

File formats

Only print-quality PDFs with fonts embedded can be accepted (i.e. PDF x-1a). PDFs should be created using Adobe InDesign or another professional page layout program. We do not recommend setting print ads in Photoshop.

Resolution

Image that are embedded within the PDF should have a resolution of 300dpi at actual size. High-resolution images that are placed larger than their actual size are often no longer of adequate resolution. Line art, including text set in Photoshop will need to be 600-1200 dpi. It is best if text and line art are set in a page layout program.

Color

Cityview is printed in CMYK. If you provide ad files containing RGB or spot colors, it will be converted to CMYK which may cause an undesired shift in color appearance. Use 100% black for type. Photoshop black uses 4 colors and may affect readability in print.

Document Size

See Ad Sizes for details on your specific ad size. A bleed of 0.125″ and a safety margin of 0.25″ should be included for bleed ads. If you are including printer marks, they must fall outside of the bleed area.

Delivery Method

Ads should be provided as print-ready PDFs. Please use the recommended PDF profile found here. Upload the print-ready PDF to the client center under the Artwork tab.

Submitting Content for Ad Development

File formats

Most image file formats are accepted. Microsoft Word or Apple Pages documents can be accepted for text only.

Resolution

Image must have a resolution of 300dpi at the desired size. High-resolution images that are placed larger than their actual size are often no longer of adequate resolution. Logos or other line art needs to provided in a vector-based format such as AI, EPS, or SVG.

Providing Ad Direction

Please provide as much information about what you’d like your ad to include as possible. Napkin sketches, headline ideas, overall concept, image preference, logo placement, and mandatory contact information are all helpful information for our designers. Providing as much information up front will speed the development of your ad and increase the likelihood that we get it right on the first proof.

Upload the elements we should use to develop your ad in the client center under the Artwork tab.
