Celebrate birds and butterflies — and support Knoxville-area outdoors-related nonprofits — at various programs in September.
UT Gardens’ Birdhouse Auction
Over at the University of Tennessee Gardens, 48 birdhouses designed and decorated by local artists and crafters will be offered for sale in an online auction. The exhibit of the birdhouses, “Home Sweet Home: A Birdhouse Exhibit” has been on display throughout the Gardens all summer. Now they’ll be auctioned off to support the work in the Gardens.
The auction link will go live from 8 am September 13 until 5 pm September 22. Minimum bid will be $50. The purchase includes the birdhouse, support rod and counter weight.
The birdhouses can be viewed at the Gardens, on the UT Gardens’ Facebook page or on its website.
UT Arboretum’s Butterfly Festival
Later in the month will be UT Arboretum Society’s 6th annual Butterfly Festival, a virtual event available online on September 18 beginning at 10 am. Program presenters will offer lectures for adults and videos for children on how to attract butterflies and other pollinators and create butterfly habitats.
