When Jimmy Murchie founded Cella Flooring & Design in 2015, he brought with him the ambition to make a premier destination for both homeowners’ and professionals’ flooring needs. 

Jimmy’s years in the industry taught him the importance of detail-oriented, personalized service, and according to Senior Sales Associate Chris Stephens, that is the sort of service he could only guarantee by opening his own business.

Stephens has been with the company practically since it first opened its doors. Before that, he’d been working in flooring for two decades. However, the difference he saw between Cella and other companies was immediate.
It started with Murchie, his vision and team-player attitude—for example, he lists himself as a senior sales associate, not founder or CEO—and continued with the company’s commitment to excellence.

“I thrive on seeing people’s eyes light up when they see what appeals to them and what they want for their house,” says Stephens. “Here at Cella, we can put together a vision for them that really excites them. That’s tremendous.”

Quality Partnerships

The experience of this ever-growing team shows in the repeat customers that come through their doors representing the best in the industry.

“We get some really top-tier installers that come to us and say that they’ve heard that we were the place to be, that we treat the people we have well, and we do good work,” says Stephens. “And recently we’ve added capacity for installation crews, so we are excited to accommodate more clients than ever before.” 

Cella finds much of its work in new construction, partnering with a number of homebuilders across East Tennessee to give these spaces a high-quality, long-lasting finish. This sort of partnership is ideal, says Stephens, because it allows for a “seamless, cohesive finished floor” that is consistent across the entire home.

Full-Service Team

There’s more than partnerships that this company has going for it, though. “Having a one-stop company to handle a full new custom build is a big advantage, because we can plan and coordinate everything,” says Stephens. 

Cella doesn’t just employ sales and installation teams; they also have two in-house designers, Krystallee Bailey and Malia Duarte, who are involved from the very first steps of the project to create that vision Stephens talks about. By making an appointment with a designer,
a homeowner or builder can walk in and see a prepared 3D rendering, so they know exactly how the new floors, showers, or backsplash will look in the space. 

Installation is given the same attention to detail that the design staff offers. Cella gives a detailed proposal with cost estimates up front, and their team personally oversees the installation so they can make sure it is put in exactly as planned.

“We try to have the same person oversee installation throughout the house, rather than have multiple crews on the same house, so our client and their home get continuity,” says Stephens. “We want the bathroom on the left end of the house to look like the bathroom on the right side of the house, even if it’s a different material or different layout.”

More Than Tile
