Marino Physiotherapy: Healing Through Movement
Marino Physiotherapy is helping East Tennessee patients find their way out of pain without the use of medications, injections, or surgery
At Marino Physiotherapy in West Knoxville, physical therapy is more than just rehabilitation — it’s about transformation. Patients receive expert, one-on-one care at every stage of their journey, whether recovering from a new injury, managing complex conditions like fibromyalgia or POTS, or seeking solutions after other treatments have fallen short. At Marino Physio, it’s not just about rehab; it’s about restoring hope, function, and quality of life through clinical precision and compassionate care.
Clinical Excellence, Delivered with Heart
Clinic founder Dr. Alaina Marino, brings more than 20 years of experience to the practice, with advanced credentials in orthopedics, manual therapy, biomechanics, dry needling, and movement science. Over the years, she began to see a shift in how care was handled, saying, “It felt more like health business rather than health care.” So with encouragement from her husband and colleagues, she began to build something different.
“I wrote down my dream list,” says Dr. Marino. “If I could design my ideal practice, where I would love to work and patients would love to come, what would it be like?”

The list included working with clinicians that were passionate about patient care and continued learning, treating one patient at a time (not three to four), educating patients and their families, having top-tier clinical equipment, and setting a standard for excellence in care.
Six years later, Marino Physio continues to grow. Their focus is on hands-on care and specialized musculoskeletal interventions, with its clinicians leading the way by pursuing advanced training in orthopedics, biomechanics, diagnostics, fascial and manipulative techniques, dry needling, and clinical reasoning. It has become a top site for visiting clinicians and fellows-in-training to advance clinical skills.
“Our team is obsessed with learning, growing, and collaborating to get great results,” says Dr. Marino. “We’re constantly challenging ourselves to be the best because our patients deserve the best.”
A Personalized Approach
Marino Physiotherapy is known for its patient-first, root-cause model. Instead of chasing symptoms, therapists evaluate the entire movement system, often finding connections that others miss. “We don’t want people to just temporarily feel better,” Dr. Marino says. “We work to find and address the root cause of their issue so they can actually be better — and stay that way.”
As a result, the clinic has built a strong reputation for solving pain and movement problems that haven’t responded to other treatments. Many patients arrive at Marino Physio after being told by other providers, “There’s nothing more you can do.” But here, the message is different: “There’s almost always something we can try.”
“We have found that the more precise the assessment, the more targeted (and effective) the treatment. Patients generally prefer getting to the point and finishing efficiently, not engaging in time-intensive daily programs.”
More Than a Clinic
Beyond the clinic, Marino Physio offers free educational talks for church groups, civic organizations, senior centers, and fitness communities, focusing on topics including fall prevention, aging with independence, running efficiency, shoulder pain, vertigo, back pain, leg cramps, and optimizing fitness at any age.
“We love helping people understand their bodies better. Whether someone becomes a patient or not, we want to be a resource that makes our community healthier and more informed.”
Come See the Difference
For those who’ve been through physical therapy, you know it can be a journey — one that requires an advocate who understands both your physical health and life needs. At Marino Physiotherapy, patients find support through clinical precision and outstanding one-on-one care.
“We meet people in pain who’ve been told, ‘This is just how things are now,’” says Dr. Marino. “But we’re here to help them rewrite that story and show that relief and a better life are still possible.”
