Celebrating 40 Years of Construction Excellence

Creative Structures, Inc. commemorates a milestone anniversary while fostering a culture of connection in the southeast’s commercial construction industry

Since its founding in 1983 by Bob Slack, Creative Structures, Inc. has been rooted in the community. Bob founded the company on a simple motto, “Building Without Compromise,” and that continues to drive the company today with sons Tyler and Parker Slack and a team of dedicated professionals.

For the past 40 years, Creative Structures, Inc. has been building a reputation as one of the leading full-service general contractors for commercial construction in the Southeast region. Operating in 12 states, the company tackles everything from retail and medical offices to industrial and religious projects.

“What truly sets us apart,” says Tyler Slack, company president, “is that despite consistent growth over the past 40 years, we’ve managed to maintain a culture—and service—based on personal touch and connection.” With their values and integrity at the forefront, this team of experts ensures that client expectations are always met. Each person on staff is personally involved in the projects they take on. And when you’re in a service business, that makes a huge difference; especially in one where your clients are investing so much of their time, money, and selves in the process. The Creative Structures Inc. team is committed to understanding that.

How does commitment to personal service come through for clients? “Once you sign on with us, you get a project manager from start to finish,” explains Tyler. “We work based on how involved the client wants to be. Many want to be involved extensively, and in cases like this, our project manager becomes almost like the client’s employee. As a result, the client has access to a dedicated individual who can provide them with all the information they need—such as schedule or budget updates—and provide it to them in real time, which has been crucial during the past three years through pandemic and supply chain challenges.”

The company’s commitment to a personal touch takes more than a dedicated project manager, though; it takes a team. And nothing speaks more eloquently to the concept of team than the longevity of the company’s employees. “We have employees who have been with us from the beginning. That’s 40 years now,” Tyler says. “The longevity and tenure of our superintendents and projects managers provides a consistent tone or cadence to the projects that we’re able to offer our clients.”

In addition to building a meaningful culture within the company, the Creative Structures, Inc. team brings that culture and commitment to responsiveness outward to their community, as well. From chamber and hospital board members to rotary volunteers and a president of the Emerald Youth Foundation, this group of talented individuals is setting the bar when it comes to community involvement for companies.

The quality of the Creative Structures, Inc. team and their work has set the bar in the southeast for commercial construction. Among others, the company has been recognized by awards such as the Best of Knox 2021-2022, the Greater Knoxville Family Business of the Year, and Cityview Magazine’s “Best of the Best” for 2022.

Building on the success and legacy of the past 40 years and moving forward to the next 40, Tyler says, the company has set goals “to maintain a customer driven company, invest in responsible growth opportunities, and take good care of our employees and our clients.”
