Fields Center: A Better Version of You

The Fields Center for Women’s Health & Robotic Surgery is ensuring that all women know that they don’t have to live with health challenges—they can solve them

We all seek ways to look and feel our best. For some, it can be as simple as getting a new outfit. For others, it can mean going to the gym daily. But if you’re in need of something different, something that supports you and your health journey on an entirely different level, then look no further than Fields Center for Women’s Health & Robotic Surgery. This team can help with almost any issue, including contraceptive counseling, weight gain, menopausal symptoms, bladder issues, and more.

Dr. Michael Fields has been in the business of helping women for more than 24 years. He is a board-certified physician and surgeon who is a nationally recognized pioneer in robotic and computer-assisted surgery. Fields has been practicing in the Knoxville area since 2001, and knows that health and wellness require a comprehensive approach specific to each woman.

Not only does he help patients within Knoxville, but he also receives referrals for complex surgeries across the nation. His practice is designated as one of 20 national surgeon “epicenters” providing advanced robotic surgery training to other surgeons.

Nurse Practitioner Anya Zerilla has worked with Dr. Fields since 2006 and serves as the practice director. “It’s amazing to us that we have him in our back pocket,” she says. “He takes the time to listen. He has the bedside skills and the expertise combined in one.”

Recently, Fields expanded the team to include seasoned urologist, Dr. Katherine Cameron, a mom of three and expert on issues such as bladder incontinence, urinary tract infections, and kidney stone disease.

“I was born and raised in Knoxville, so I bleed orange,” she says. “I went to the UT Health Science Center in Memphis for medical school. Then God led me to urology.”

Urology issues can be sensitive topics, Dr. Cameron says, topics that a lot of older women are embarrassed to talk about. But she is passionate about helping women understand their pelvic health and strips away the shame that is often associated with talking about it.

After a residency in Alabama, she made her way back to Knoxville and joined the team at Fields Center, which includes not only Dr. Fields but three exceptional nurse practitioners—Zerilla, Catherine Kingery, and Rachel Fields—who get to know their patients on a personal level.

“During a well-woman exam we talk about cycle patterns, sleep patterns, breast health, and sexual health,” says Kingery. “For many women approaching perimenopause, sleep can be disrupted due to a change in their hormones. Medications, therapy options, supplements can all help.”

“The quality of care is different everywhere you go,” says Rachel Fields (no relation to Dr. Fields). “We start with a thorough consultation, what they’re frustrated about, family history.” From there come individualized approaches to the challenges patients face.

“There’s not a formula. It’s truly an art. The female body is extremely complicated,” Rachel adds. “What works for one might not for another. We’re educating our patients and want them to understand why we’re doing what we’re doing and let them have a say in their treatment. We pride ourselves on having a good relationship with our patients.”

“From traditional hormone replacement to topical creams and pellet therapy, we look at you as a whole,” Zerilla says. “We do bloodwork to check hormones, thyroid, vitamin deficiencies, and iron panels — things outside the aging process.”

The practice also offers a full range of services including routine gynecology exams, weight loss management, obstetrics and prenatal care, adolescent gynecology, overactive bladder, interstitial cystitis (IC), vaginal atrophy and menopausal management. They also offer minimally invasive surgery for hysterectomies, fibroids, endometriosis, vaginal prolapse, TVT slings, bulkamid and much more. “In general,” Zerilla says, “we want you to feel like a better version of yourself.”
