Kid A’ Riffic comes to eight Knoxville parks this summer, offering crafts, games, and other activities to Knoxville area families.
“Local organizations and City departments will offer hands-on crafts and activities,” said Elaine Frank, deputy director of the City of Knoxville’s Office of Special Events. “For example, Keep Knoxville Beautiful will be on site doing a recycle craft, Knox County Library will have a storybook trail, City Parks and Rec will have their KORE truck that is full of games and activities, Knoxville Arts & Fine Crafts Center will have crafts, Home Depot will have building kits, and much more.”
In 2019 Kid A’ Riffic was held on Market Square, but with restaurants there using it as extended patio space, the decision was made to take the program to city neighborhoods, Frank said.
Families are invited to participate in Kid A’ Riffic on Wednesdays in June and July from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the following parks:
June 2 – Suttree Landing Park, 1001 Waterfront Drive
June 9 – Victor Ashe Park, 4901 Bradshaw Road
June 16 – World’s Fair Park, World’s Fair Park Drive
June 23 – Lakeshore Park, 6410 Northshore Drive
June 30 – Ashley Nicole Dream Playground, 620 Winona Street
July 7 – Holston River Park, 3300 Holston Hills Road
July 14 – Adair Park, 1807 Adair Drive
July 21 – West Hills Park, 7624 Sheffield Drive
July 28 – World’s Fair Park, World’s Fair Park Drive
“The purpose of Kid A’ Riffic is to provide kids something to do during summer break where they can enjoy free crafts, activities, and games while creating fun memories in our City parks,” Frank said. “It also allows families to learn about activities, camps, and classes that are offered throughout the year through these local organizations.”
Following COVID precautions, tables will be set up in a socially distanced way, she said. Families may also take crafts home to complete there.
Participation is free, and no registration is required. For more information, visit KnoxvilleTN.gov/events.
