Live theater is returning to Knoxville, and the summer offers three chances to experience it. Here’s what’s on stage and in store:
- The Word Players: If you missed the theater company’s first fully produced live production in a theater space since COVID-19 in July, don’t worry, there’s more on the horizon. “We are beyond excited to see the end of the pandemic and a return to normal programming for all performing arts organizations!” said Jeni Lamm, managing director of the theater group. “We plan to return to a full production schedule for our 2021-22 season, which begins in August.” More info here.
- Shakespeare Off the Square: The Tennessee Stage Company continues its run of Twelfth Night and The Tempest on the field in front of the visitors center at Ijams Nature Center in South Knoxville through August 8. The two shows alternate performances at 7:30 pm Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets are $15. Food trucks should also be on hand for a picnic dinner. Find more info here.
- Knoxville Children’s Theatre: The young actors at Knoxville Children’s Theatre take their audience under the sea with the current production of The Little Mermaid Jr., on Thursdays through Sundays until July 25. Matinees and evening performances are offered; tickets are $12-$15. Click here for more info.
