Strings of the Holocaust
The “Violins of Hope” is a new exhibition at UT’s Downtown Gallery featuring restored violins that were played by Jewish musicians during The Holocaust. The collection of over 50 violins was created and restored by master violin maker Amnon Weinstein. Weinstein was inspired when a Holocaust survivor brought him a violin for restoration and heard the tragic story of the instrument. These violins tell the stories of suffering and survival. The exhibition is free to view and will be on display for three weeks. In addition, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will perform with the violins on January 23 and 24 at the Tennessee Theatre. These performances offer guests a chance to hear the restored violins, as well as commentary by Hallerin Hilton Hill and dramatic readings. For more information visit violinsofhopeknox.com.
