Though the 2021-22 season of Broadway at the Tennessee is still ongoing — Hairspray runs June 3-5 and Anastasia July 15-17 — organizers are looking ahead and encouraging theatergoers to buy their season tickets for the 2022-23 season.

Broadway at the Tennessee has been bringing touring musicals to Knoxville since 2008, says Nicki Collett, director of marketing and partnerships at the Tennessee Theatre. Since then, fans have found lots of favorite shows to love. “It would be difficult to choose just one that has been most popular …from Lés Miserables to Miss Saigon, from Sound of Music to Cinderella, we’ve been so fortunate to have incredible productions here on our stage, and to provide something for everyone,” she says.

The upcoming season will follow in that tradition. It begins with Dear Evan Hansen Nov. 15-20, 2022, a contemporary musical about life and the way we live it. Jesus Christ Superstar follows Nov. 29-Dec. 4, about the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ. Tootsie on Jan. 3-8, 2023, tells the story of an out-of-work actor who finds success working as a woman. Then Hamilton on Feb. 7-19, tells the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton with a musical score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway. Cats tells the story of one magical night when it hits the stage April 11-16, and Ain’t Too Proud, the Life and Times of the Temptations rounds out the season on July 18-23.

Those who buy season tickets for the 2022-23 season will also get first dibs on seeing 9 to 5 The Musical, an add-on show featuring the musical score written by Tennessee’s favorite songwriter Dolly Parton.
