Dr. Wesley Wilson brings 30 years of surgical experience to UT Medical Center

mproving the health and wellness of a patient is the goal of any medical practitioner, but reaching that goal can take many forms. For Dr. Wesley G. Wilson, a board-certified plastic surgeon who has limited his practice to aesthetic plastic surgery, that means improving a patient’s physical appearance, self-esteem, and self-confidence. “Whether it is looking a little more youthful, clothing fitting better, or putting on that swimsuit or dress you have always dreamed of wearing, it makes a big difference,” says Dr. Wilson.

Before joining the team at UT Medical Center, Dr. Wilson spent three decades practicing in Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s a field he finds rewarding. “My greatest joy is when a patient tells me, ‘I look fantastic. This is what I wanted,”” he says. Being recruited to the Plastic Surgery Department at The University of Tennessee Medical Center to develop the aesthetic/cosmetic plastic surgery practice, has been a chance for him to continue building a legacy, “and give back a bit,” he says. “I also get to spend time with one of my sons, his wife, and four of my grandchildren who reside here in Knoxville.”

If you’re considering a cosmetic procedure, Dr. Wilson says there are a couple things to think about. Knowing what you want to change or do not like about your appearance is the first step. Do you want to reclaim a more youthful appearance? What does that mean for you? Is there puffiness around the eyes, loose skin on the neck or jowls? Does your body need some recontouring after weight loss or pregnancy? Do you want larger or more perky breasts?  You don’t need to know the names or details of the procedures, but the clearer you are on what changes you want, the easier it is for an expert like Dr. Wilson to recommend the correct procedures and the more likely you are to be satisfied with the results. Dr. Wilson performs almost all types of aesthetic plastic surgery both facial and body. “Our goal is to understand the desired outcome for each individual patient and deliver those surgical results.”

With over 30 years of experience Dr. Wilson has the expertise to deliver great results and happy satisfied patients. “As for the procedures themselves,” says Dr. Wilson, “it’s convenient for the patient. Most of the surgeries are outpatient, meaning the patient isn’t staying overnight.” How long it takes to perform a surgery varies according to the procedure. Recovery can also vary. Most of the time, patients need to rest and relax for 24 to 48 hours and then can start to resume their regular routines, although some swelling and mild bruising may persist for a few weeks. The complete process from start to finish will be discussed prior to surgery so you can make appropriate plans for your recovery.

To meet Dr. Wilson and learn more, attend the “Hot Topics in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery” seminar on September 24. The first seminar will be at the Heart Hospital Conference Room at UT Medical Center’s main campus at 12:30 p.m, and the second will be at the medical center’s Regional Health Center in Lenoir City at 6:30 p.m. Click here to register by September 19. You can also call to schedule a consultation.
