“Just about anyone can play disc golf,” says Brian Beauchene, owner of Pluto Sports and a longtime area advocate. The city “has a thriving disc golf scene with informal local competitions, PDGA-sanctioned events, and social gatherings; we even play Glow Disc Golf” with incandescent discs and lights on the baskets.

Morningside Park was the first course in town, Beauchene says, but now there are “about 11 in Knox County and many in nearby towns like Oak Ridge, Maryville-Alcoa, Morristown, Norris, Clinton, Jefferson City, Kingston, Harriman, Crossville, Greenville, Athens, Cleveland, Jellico…”

According to the course app UDisc, Knoxville-area courses include:

•   The Claytons (Maryville; 19 holes)

•   Tommy Schumpert Park (18 holes)

•   Morningside Park* (18 holes)

•   Victor Ashe Park (18 holes)

•   Admiral Farragut Park (9 holes)

•   Norris Disc Golf Course (Norris, 9 holes)

•   Powell Station (Powell, 9 holes)

•   Johnson University (18 holes)

•   Inskip Junior Course (9 holes)

•   Sarah Moore Greene DGC (9 holes, short beginning course)

•   Plumb Creek (9 holes)

•   The Mounds @ Grove Park (Oak Ridge, 18 holes)

…and many more!

Almost every course is free to play. To find one near you, simply type “disc golf course” into your map app, or use your browser to run a search. Pick up a disc or two at a sporting-goods store like Pluto, and get started enjoying the game!
