Tennesseans, and Knoxvillians specifically, know all too well that winter weather can be unpredictable—a decent snowfall can be rare and a “White Christmas” is almost unimaginable. Luckily, you don’t have to travel to Colorado or West Virginia to get your snow fix for the season. Ober Gatlinburg, which is open year-round, features a multitude of activities including the increasingly popular snow tubing. Starting November 17, people of all ages can feel the wind nip at their nose while sliding down a ten-lane, 400-foot hill on an inflatable tube. The “Magic Carpet” escalator brings you back to the top of the hill for your next run. Ober Gatlinbug also has skiing, an ice skating rink, bumper cars on ice, and many other activities fit for the whole family.
Because winter in the Smokies can also bring a bit of rain, Pigeon Forge Snow has recently opened—featuring indoor, year-round snow tubing slopes. Hailed as America’s first indoor snow park, their snow is made from 100% pure water, and it’s always 60-70 degrees inside. Whether you’re looking to brave the elements or simply get a taste of winter fun, Ober Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Snow are great destinations this season.
