Arriving at a holiday party in a statement outfit is a must for the season. The classic cocktail dress remains a staple, as do classic holiday colors, blacks, and neutrals. “A lot of the details we are seeing this year, such as feathers and beautiful satin fabrics, make it easy to add a little extra to your outfit,” says Kara Box of Lizard Thicket. Metallics and colors typically found in the spring are trending now, too. “Pairing a fun sequin or silky top with some leather pants or skirt would be a fun option,” she says.

As for men, “stick with the staples and you can’t go wrong,” says Marcus Hall of Marc Nelson Denim. A staple black or clean and crisp shirt with a classic pair of jeans make great combinations for the holiday party. Or try a printed shirt, which Marcus says is trending this season. Dress up this look with a formal jacket and a pocket square.

When it comes to shoes, Marcus says a classic look with a rubber sole make a great option. Even a clean pair of sneakers can be a perfect shoe for the holiday get-together. And don’t forget the belt: “Because if you’ve got a horrible belt on and great shoes, you’re slacking,” he says with a laugh.

Jewelry for both men and women can make a statement with any holiday outfit. Pendants make great selections for necklaces, says Miohn Allen of Kimball’s Jewelers. And you can’t go wrong with a classic watch. “When selecting a watch, it’s more about the cohesiveness of the dial, how it pairs with the bezel,” he says.

Miohn and Kara both mentioned that mixing and stacking bracelets can make great additions to your holiday attire. “You don’t have to overdo it,” Kara says. “Whatever works with the details of your outfit.”
