5 Things to Know About Volunteer Assisted Transportation

Volunteer Assisted Transportation is a volunteer driver program of the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee. And it needs your help!

1. Drivers assist area seniors and people with disabilities.

This is one-on-one assistance to a fellow neighbor in need of transportation. No lifting or medical care is required. 

2. The program is being COVID-safe.

Masks are required by volunteer driver and passenger. Passengers are required to sit in the backseat of the vehicles.

3. A little experience matters.

Drivers must be 21 years of age and have at least 3 years of driving experience

4. You can pick when you’re able to help.

Volunteers are needed for weekdays, evenings and weekends and flexible scheduling is available. Drivers use agency-owned vehicles to provide transportation. 

5. Drivers make sure their riders stay safe.

Volunteer drivers stay with riders and provide assistance at appointments, grocery shopping and other errands and make sure they stay safe.
