Stem cells are here in Knoxville. They’re changing lives and may one day change yours.

You’ve probably heard of the use of stem cells in cancer treatment, but did you know that an injection of stem cells can make your joints younger, and even prevent a knee replacement?

“When you inject stem cells in an area, it’s really amazing the way they go to work,” says Dr. J. Scott Brown, owner of Brown Chiropractic and Optimal Health PLLC. “If you have cartilage damage, you can regenerate cartilage. If you’ve got ligament damage, you can regenerate ligament.”

Brown is much more than a chiropractor. He’s a Renaissance man, always learning about the latest advances in medicine. It’s this dedication that has earned his business Cityview’s top award in the Chiropractic and Regenerative Medicine categories.

“Our passion is helping people,” Brown says, “but my goal is to change lives. What I really like is giving someone’s life back. That’s a really big thing to me. I broke my back when I was 20 years old. I was told by an orthopedic surgeon at the hospital that I’d never be able to play sports again, and I had been a college athlete. It kind of took my life away from me until someone said ‘Now wait—we can do something different.”

Regenerative medicine, chiropractic, physical therapy, rehab, massage, medication and aesthetics medicine are offered at each of his three different locations.

Brown is especially enthusiastic about regenerative medicine, a relatively new procedure that grows new tissue.

“As we get older, the number of stem cells goes way down and we don’t heal as quickly,” he explains. You can get stem cells out of your fat tissue or your bone marrow. We choose to use umbilical cord tissue because of the high concentration of stem cell therapy and growth factors. That’s one of the reasons we have fantastic results. A year ago it was the up-and-coming thing. Now it is the thing.”

Brown has been treating joints with stem cells for more than a year now and has experienced tremendous success.

“A lot of times people are told ‘Your knees are bone on bone,’” he says. “Or ‘there’s nothing we can do about it. You’ll have to wait and have surgery.’ That’s what I like about stem cell therapy. It gives you another option that’s helping you get your life back and that’s what is most important. If you would like to find out more call for an appointment to see if you are a candidate, the initial consult is free.

“Traditional treatments have been degenerative in nature. You take medicine to cover it up and then do surgery that damages tissues. I like to say ‘Let’s do something that makes your knees 10 years younger.’

“It’s fantastic to feel I am accomplishing what I set out to do. It makes me feel humbled and happy to help as many people as we’ve been able to help. My uncle Keith and I dug a ditch 33 years ago on Kingston Pike to put an electrical line in to light up the sign showing how proud we were to be in Knoxville. I picked Knoxville because it has the best people in the world.

“You make so many friends with your patients along the way. It’s humbling, too, because I don’t heal anybody. God put the healing energy inside the body. We just help it. It feels good to be number one, but it’s not really me at all, it’s a God thing.”
